Opportunities

Crossroads: Data Science in the Humanities and Humanities in Data Science

Location: University of Illinois Chicago

Dates: April 21-24, 2026

The hybrid event Crossroads: Data Science in the Humanities and Humanities in Data Science is the inaugural event of its kind at the UIC Library. Centered on the theme Crossroads: Data Science in the Humanities and Humanities in Data Science, the event brings together approaches that foster dialogue between scholarship on human culture and data science practices.
The four-day event highlights intersectional and interdisciplinary methods and methodologies, emphasizing how computational techniques can enrich humanistic research while also critically engaging the implications of data-driven approaches. Featured projects will include work in data visualization, digital collections, text analysis, corpus studies, natural language processing (NLP), artificial intelligence (AI), data management, Wikidata, digital fabrication and spatial design, and related computational methods.
While parts of the program will take place in person, there are also online components, and we would love to have students, librarians, and faculty from Loyola join us.
The program book and registration details are here: https://go.uic.edu/Crossroads.
